For one night only, guests will be able to feast on an 8 Course Tasting Menu influenced by Nigerian flavours and ingredients. This unique dining experience, aptly named ‘Ounje’ which simply translates to food in the Yoruba dialect, will take place at The Pillar Box Kitchen in East London, on Sunday 8th October; where Victor Okunowo will be showcasing his gastronomy and modern cooking methods, with his original take on Nigerian dishes and flavours. I was lucky enough to attend a private menu tasting in the lead up to the October ‘Pan African Supperclub’ and Victor did not fail to impress with his innovative culinary skills and fusion of traditional Nigerian ingredients. With an array of dishes ranging from Ankara (Nigerian bean cake) pancake with sweet peppers, king prawns, spinach and palm oil dressing – to the extremely moorish banana, spiced sponge, chin chin crumble with supermalt ice cream and malt whiskey glaze, there was nothing and I honestly mean NOTHING, that didn’t taste great! The menu for the October event is tightly under wraps for now, but believe me, based on the 8 course menu I sampled…you will not be disappointed! Tickets cost £50pp and include the 8 course meal + complimentary prosseco, from 3pm until 9pm. For more information and to purchase tickets visit designmynight.com. ‘Ounje’, The Pill Box Kitchen, 115 Coventry Road, London, E2 6HA.
