Friday 18th – Saturday 19th August, will be your opportunity to live life on the (V)EDGE, pun intended, as a vegan street food festival is coming to Kings Cross. Livin’ On The Veg will see eight street food traders set up shop in King’s Cross to conjure up two days straight, of vegan indulgence for everyone to enjoy, with one trader being crowned the tastiest of them all. Visitors will sample a dish from each stall (and receive a free cocktail on entry), included in the ticket price, after which they can vote for their favourite at the VEG Wall Of Fame. Here is the line-up and what to expect, as quoted by the Evening Standard: ‘Biff’s Jack Shack will be saying “cluck you” to fried chicken, serving double-fried jackfruit ‘buffalo wings’ speared on a sugar cane ‘bone’ and laced with maple bourbon hot sauce. And the rather marvellously-named Temple of Seitan will also be imitating the bird, serving ‘chicken’ sliders made from the wheat-based meat substitute. Venezuelan stall Petare will be cooking up chip butties made from arepas stuffed with cassava chips, sweet fried plantain, feta, avocado and garlic sauce, and Eritrean stall Lem Lem Kitchen will be whipping up so-called afro-tacos made with injera bread and spicy lentils. There will be tandoori cauliflower steak from Indian-influenced Spice Box, Greedy Khao will be making a Thai red curry with tofu, and Korean stall Eat Chat will have bánh mì on hand. To round it off, the Young Vegans have pudding covered in the form of chocolate peanut butter mud pie brownies. Dairy free, of course.’ There will also be a KERB bar, cocktail bar and beer bar, serving up Vegan specials, with DJ’s throughout. The event runs across three sessions: Friday evening (6-11pm), Saturday afternoon (12-5pm) and Saturday evening (6-11pm). Early bird tickets (now sold out) start from £25 and standard tickets from £30, which include one dish from each trader plus a free cocktail. Great news for cheese lovers…as London is to get a bar dedicated to cheese and ‘the best grilled cheese sandwiches in London’, as billed by Time Out Magazine. After three years of selling their signature cheese toasties from a vintage yellow converted ice-cream van named ‘Alfie’, The Cheese Truck is set to open its takeaway hatch and doors, to its first permanent restaurant, The Cheese Bar, in Camden Stables Market, from Thursday 2nd March. According to Stylist Magazine, “the cheese-celebrating menu will include ‘Alfie’ classics like; the Cropwell Bishop Stilton, bacon and pear chutney sandwich and exciting new additions such as Queso Fundido – a Mexican version of fondue. Breakfast Poutine is a spin on the classic French-Canadian dish, with bacon gravy, candied pancetta and Gringa Dairy cheese curds topped off with a fried egg. You can even indulge in cheese for dessert with a dark chocolate ice cream sundae made with honey and Beeleigh Blue – a creamy ewe’s milk cheese from South Devon.” To celebrate the opening of their Takeaway Hatch they’re having a “sandwich amnesty” on Thursday 2nd March, from 12pm – 3pm and you’ll be able to swap any unopened shop bought sandwich for one of their classic grilled cheese sandwiches absolutely FREE! (The donated sandwiches will be handed out to charity SHP – Single Homeless Project at the end of the day). The sandwich amnesty is on for one day only; however you’ll be able to get a sneak peek of their menu from their takeaway hatch between the 4th March and the 22nd of March ahead of their opening on Thursday 23rd of March. For updates and more information, follow The Cheese Bar on Twitter @thecheesebarldn. Unit 93 and 94 Camden Market, North Yard, Chalk Farm Road NW1 8AH.
Nestled in Johannesburg’s Northern suburbs, behind high perimeter walls and Jacaranda trees pushed back from a narrow street is this gem – a boutique Five Star hotel (part of the Relais & Chateaux group) with one of the city’s award winning and best restaurants.
Following weeks of planning, cancellations and the juggling of schedules, Yolisa and I finally got to hang out with Executive Chef Willie Malherbe from AtholPlace Restaurant and it worked out perfectly in the end. I was there to eat; Yolisa was there to shoot a video for her YouTube Channel, Yo Yum Tum.

I’ve been here a few times before and recommended it to so many of my friends and, we all seem to say the same things about this place – why are we only finding out about it now? Why are secrets being kept from us? You can read more about the hotel and villas here.
