A CHEESE BAR IS OPENING IN LONDON

Great news for cheese lovers…as London is to get a bar dedicated to cheese and ‘the best grilled cheese sandwiches in London’, as billed by Time Out Magazine. After three years of selling their signature cheese toasties from a vintage yellow converted ice-cream van named ‘Alfie’, The Cheese Truck is set to open its takeaway hatch and doors, to its first permanent restaurant, The Cheese Bar, in Camden Stables Market, from Thursday 2nd March. According to Stylist Magazine, “the cheese-celebrating menu will include ‘Alfie’ classics like; the Cropwell Bishop Stilton, bacon and pear chutney sandwich and exciting new additions such as Queso Fundido – a Mexican version of fondue. Breakfast Poutine is a spin on the classic French-Canadian dish, with bacon gravy, candied pancetta and Gringa Dairy cheese curds topped off with a fried egg. You can even indulge in cheese for dessert with a dark chocolate ice cream sundae made with honey and Beeleigh Blue – a creamy ewe’s milk cheese from South Devon.” To celebrate the opening of their Takeaway Hatch they’re having a “sandwich amnesty” on Thursday 2nd March, from 12pm – 3pm and you’ll be able to swap any unopened shop bought sandwich for one of their classic grilled cheese sandwiches absolutely FREE! (The donated sandwiches will be handed out to charity SHP – Single Homeless Project at the end of the day). The sandwich amnesty is on for one day only; however you’ll be able to get a sneak peek of their menu from their takeaway hatch between the 4th March and the 22nd of March ahead of their opening on Thursday 23rd of March. ATHOLPLACE RESTAURANT - JOHANNESBURG

Nestled in Johannesburg’s Northern suburbs, behind high perimeter walls and Jacaranda trees pushed back from a narrow street is this gem – a boutique Five Star hotel (part of the Relais & Chateaux group) with one of the city’s award winning and best restaurants.

Following weeks of planning, cancellations and the juggling of schedules, Yolisa and I finally got to hang out with Executive Chef Willie Malherbe from AtholPlace Restaurant and it worked out perfectly in the end. I was there to eat; Yolisa was there to shoot a video for her YouTube Channel, Yo Yum Tum.

Chef Willie Malherbe

I’ve been here a few times before and recommended it to so many of my friends and, we all seem to say the same things about this place – why are we only finding out about it now? Why are secrets being kept from us? You can read more about the hotel and villas here.

FREE BACON BUTTIES FROM LE SWINE

FREE BACON BUTTY ALERT!! Every Friday until 10am you can get your hands on a free bacon butty. Time Out Magazine stated “In anticipation of all those festive hangovers, master of the bacon buttie Le Swine is sorting Londoners out with a free breakfast every Friday in the run up to Christmas from its van in Broadway Circle. Prepare to start drooling as the aptly named ‘Festive Survival Squad’ will be serving up a bacon, sausage patty and egg butty with a dollop of Swinez beans mixed with a little Tabasco sauce to the first 25 people who say the not-so-secret (and slightly cringe) password, #tabascosquadgoals. Still, it’s worth it for the freebie. And if your taste buds aren’t already tingling from all that Tabasco, head to Breddos Tacos’ new branch in Clerkenwell on December 23 where the first 50 people to use the password will get a black pudding taco with eggs and bacon slathered in a smoky brown sauce made with, what else? Tabasco chipotle sauce. Even if you miss out on breakfast, you can still get your Tabasco fix in the form of a mini bottle of the spicy stuff, which both places are giving out for free.” For updates go to @Le_SwineBreddos Tacos is at 82 Goswell Rd, EC1V 7DB and Le Swine is at Broadgate Circle.
