In need of a sugar rush? Then all roads lead to ‘sweet treat central’ as Just Desserts returns to Mercers Walk, Covent Garden; for their last pop-up of the year on Thursday 14th September. At this sweet-inspired street food market, you can expect everything from cupcakes and chocolate, to doughnuts and pastries. The inaugural pop-up took place last month bringing together some of London’s best sweet street food traders from Nonna’s Gelato, Simply Pavlova, to Cat Food Cakes (not for cats, but food by Cat). This month see’s an equally impressive line-up and you’ll be able to fill your face with everything from cupcakes and cake, to candy floss. Friday 18th – Saturday 19th August, will be your opportunity to live life on the (V)EDGE, pun intended, as a vegan street food festival is coming to Kings Cross. Livin’ On The Veg will see eight street food traders set up shop in King’s Cross to conjure up two days straight, of vegan indulgence for everyone to enjoy, with one trader being crowned the tastiest of them all. Visitors will sample a dish from each stall (and receive a free cocktail on entry), included in the ticket price, after which they can vote for their favourite at the VEG Wall Of Fame. Here is the line-up and what to expect, as quoted by the Evening Standard: ‘Biff’s Jack Shack will be saying “cluck you” to fried chicken, serving double-fried jackfruit ‘buffalo wings’ speared on a sugar cane ‘bone’ and laced with maple bourbon hot sauce. And the rather marvellously-named Temple of Seitan will also be imitating the bird, serving ‘chicken’ sliders made from the wheat-based meat substitute. Venezuelan stall Petare will be cooking up chip butties made from arepas stuffed with cassava chips, sweet fried plantain, feta, avocado and garlic sauce, and Eritrean stall Lem Lem Kitchen will be whipping up so-called afro-tacos made with injera bread and spicy lentils. There will be tandoori cauliflower steak from Indian-influenced Spice Box, Greedy Khao will be making a Thai red curry with tofu, and Korean stall Eat Chat will have bánh mì on hand. To round it off, the Young Vegans have pudding covered in the form of chocolate peanut butter mud pie brownies. Dairy free, of course.’ There will also be a KERB bar, cocktail bar and beer bar, serving up Vegan specials, with DJ’s throughout.The event runs across three sessions: Friday evening (6-11pm), Saturday afternoon (12-5pm) and Saturday evening (6-11pm). High raise dining will be taken to new levels…literally; as ‘London in the Sky’ returns in July next year (19th – 30th July 2017), with what is promised to be their “best ever chef line-up” offering guests an unforgettable Michelin-starred dining experience, over the London sky-line. The full restaurant line-up, including their menus, will be announced in the last week of January 2017. A specially designed “sky table” platform will sit 22 belted in diners, with a guest chef, sommelier and waiting team serving from the centre of the table. Upon arrival guests will be served a glass of champagne (to possibly help calm the nerves) and taken through the registration process, before being suspended 100 feet in the air. Top chefs from some of London’s finest restaurants, such as Michael Reid (M Restaurants), Jeremy Page (L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon) and Calum Franklin (Holborn Dining Room) to name a few, will transfer their menus and dining experiences to this unique event. Guests have the option of breakfast, lunch or dinner (with either an early sitting or sunset sitting) and drink flights are also available in the afternoon and evening.
