Great news for cheese lovers…as London is to get a bar dedicated to cheese and ‘the best grilled cheese sandwiches in London’, as billed by Time Out Magazine. After three years of selling their signature cheese toasties from a vintage yellow converted ice-cream van named ‘Alfie’, The Cheese Truck is set to open its takeaway hatch and doors, to its first permanent restaurant, The Cheese Bar, in Camden Stables Market, from Thursday 2nd March. According to Stylist Magazine, “the cheese-celebrating menu will include ‘Alfie’ classics like; the Cropwell Bishop Stilton, bacon and pear chutney sandwich and exciting new additions such as Queso Fundido – a Mexican version of fondue. Breakfast Poutine is a spin on the classic French-Canadian dish, with bacon gravy, candied pancetta and Gringa Dairy cheese curds topped off with a fried egg. You can even indulge in cheese for dessert with a dark chocolate ice cream sundae made with honey and Beeleigh Blue – a creamy ewe’s milk cheese from South Devon.” To celebrate the opening of their Takeaway Hatch they’re having a “sandwich amnesty” on Thursday 2nd March, from 12pm – 3pm and you’ll be able to swap any unopened shop bought sandwich for one of their classic grilled cheese sandwiches absolutely FREE! High raise dining will be taken to new levels…literally; as ‘London in the Sky’ returns in July next year (19th – 30th July 2017), with what is promised to be their “best ever chef line-up” offering guests an unforgettable Michelin-starred dining experience, over the London sky-line. The full restaurant line-up, including their menus, will be announced in the last week of January 2017. A specially designed “sky table” platform will sit 22 belted in diners, with a guest chef, sommelier and waiting team serving from the centre of the table. Upon arrival guests will be served a glass of champagne (to possibly help calm the nerves) and taken through the registration process, before being suspended 100 feet in the air. Top chefs from some of London’s finest restaurants, such as Michael Reid (M Restaurants), Jeremy Page (L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon) and Calum Franklin (Holborn Dining Room) to name a few, will transfer their menus and dining experiences to this unique event. Guests have the option of breakfast, lunch or dinner (with either an early sitting or sunset sitting) and drink flights are also available in the afternoon and evening. Of all the crazy novelty pop-ups to have emerged in London, this has to be the most outlandish of them all. The city that brought you the ‘Naked Chef’ is now bringing you a restaurant where you can eat in your birthday suit. Lollipop, the company behind the hugely popular ABQ, the Breaking Bad-inspired cocktail bar, are bringing a new dining experience to the capital this summer: The Bunyadi – London’s first naked restaurant, which encourages dinners to discard of their clothes at the door and dine in the buff (not compulsory). “We believe people should get the chance to enjoy and experience a night out without any impurities: no chemicals, no artificial colours, no electricity, no gas, no phone and even no clothes if they wish to. The idea is to experience true liberation,” the founder, Seb Lyall is quoted as saying. It’s a bright, fresh spring Sunday morning in Hyde Park corner, at 09:50am and we wait in excited anticipation in the queue for the famous Hard Rock Café London, to open its doors for the newly launched Rock N Roll Brunch at 10:00am. Once the doors are opened we are warmly welcomed and ushered to our seats at a central table, close to a set up of musical instruments, which we assumed was where the live band would be performing. We shared a table with four other people. The restaurant filled up quite quickly and there was a lively buzz. The clientele was diverse, and clearly catered for everyone, including families with children.
We started with a drinks order of an Orange Juice and a Bloody Mary. In case you are wondering…yes, it’s a bottomless brunch, which means trying to get through copious amounts of Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas within a two hour window (brunch is from 10.00am – 12.00pm); still, not bad for £29.95! On the table was the kit for a ‘spice it up the way you like it’ (create your own) Bloody Mary, with Tabasco sauce, lemon, lime, celery sticks, and Worcester sauce. This was certainly a fun start to the day. Next came the Mimosas…there were *sounds of approval* all round and I heard a resounding “that tastes good”. All of this really whet my appetite.
Not long until the arrival of the Easter Bunny…just not how you know it! You might want to hop on over to your nearest ETM Group venue from March 25th – April 1st for the limited edition Hot Cross Bunny Burger. Priced at £12.50, the burger consists of rabbit meat patty, topped with smoked bacon, mushroom and Lincolnshire rarebit, all sandwiched between a sweet, light and fluffy hot cross bun. In the evening, from the 3rd March the dessert restaurant will feature a selection of exquisite tasting experiences, all served with optional wine pairing; available from 6pm to 10.30pm daily.
